What to do if a fire breaks out? Check the guidelines!

Fortunately, the odds that a fire breaks out or that we find ourselves in another emergency situation are small. And yet: there are 500 industrial fires in Belgium every year. In such a case, clear guidelines and determination are vital.

1. COMMUNICATE

  • Keep calm and ensure your own safety.
  • Warn the people in your immediate vicinity.
  • Press the fire alarm button.
  • Call the emergency number 112.

2. PUT OUT

  • Put out the fire with the available portable extinguishers.
  • Make one attempt.
  • If it fails, evacuate.

3. EVACUATE

  • Close windows and doors.
  • Follow the signage (exit, emergency exit, evacuation route).

4. ASSEMBLE

  • Go to the assembly point.
  • Report to your manager.

Our internal prevention service organises evacuation drills in the various sites in the spring. The aim is to rehearse this step-by-step plan and to address the points requiring improvement. In doing so, we learn to act decisively in an emergency, because it can save lives. Thank you for your cooperation!
