Dino Malkic: “From young graduate to Application Engineer, a great career path”
-
In #wearecircet, we present you both the new arrivals and the regulars in our team: meet Dino Malkic
Function: Application Engineer
Employed since: January 2023
Active in: Kontich offices
How do you help build the infrastructure of tomorrow?
“I am responsible for the maintenance and management of our internal software applications. We use them to automate dozens of processes. So, I don’t “physically” build the infrastructure of tomorrow, but I do ensure that colleagues can document their work, record problems, work more efficiently, and so on.”
"I love the variety in this job!"
- Dino Malkic
What is your main task?
“The management and maintenance of two applications. The first is Sitetracker: a project management tool. We use this software, among other things, for Fiber to the Home (FttH) fibre deployment projects. The platform lists all the projects that Circet is conducting, the work orders are received, technicians and work planners can find their tasks there, and more. I make sure that the platform runs well and that we configure it so as to meet the needs of our colleagues.”
“I manage and maintain Sitetracker and 4me:
two applications that make Circet run better.”
- Dino Malkic, Application Engineer
“I also contribute to the service management platform 4me that we use to document and resolve end-user issues or questions. I configure the application in such a way that the 'tickets' with the right SLAs are sent to the correct team to ensure that the requester gets help quickly.”
Which challenges do you face?
“The tickets harder to diagnose or complex questions that come in constitute the biggest challenge. Then, you have to analyse what went wrong and find a solution. There are bugs in every system: some are easy to fix, others require more thought. In IT, no two days are the same: the software keeps expanding and we are automating more and more. You have to stay alert to implement those changes correctly.”
Are you getting good support from Circet to do your job?
"Absolutely. Having just graduated, I could use some support in my first job. I am part of a friendly, close-knit team. As a social person, I believe it's important. We regularly update each other over the chat function. Help is never far away."
“I also get a lot of opportunities to learn. For Sitetracker, I received a week of admin training. I took the exam immediately after and obtained my certificate, which allowed me to start using the tool straight away. Great planning on the part of the Circet Academy.”
Would you recommend your job to others?
“Definitely, also to people with little experience like me. Hired as a young graduate, I was subsequently fully prepared for this function. Every day is different: sometimes I configure, other times I document, execute tickets or resolve issues. It's so varied!”
"Working as an Application Engineer, every day is different.
I really love the variety.”
- Dino Malkic, Application Engineer
“I also think the freedom to manage your own schedule is a plus. I do my own planning and choose when to perform each task, always respecting deadlines.”
Which tip do you have for a colleague who just started at Circet?
“Ask a lot of questions. I like to solve problems myself, but your own knowledge has its limits. If you've reached them, you shouldn't hesitate to seek the help of an experienced colleague. Asking questions also ensures that you can integrate the team a lot faster.”
