Function: Project Manager FttH for Delta Projects, in the Reusel and Goirle region
Number of years employed:1.5 years
Site/department: no permanent site

How do you help build the infrastructure of tomorrow?

“A year and a half ago, I started as a work planner and for the past seven months I have been project manager. This step was in line with my expectations: before I started at Circet, I worked as a manager for eighteen years. So, I had a lot of experience in management, but I had no knowledge of fibre optic (projects). That is why Circet advised me to start as a planner. It turned out to be a very good idea: I now know the sector through and through.

In my function, I manage my team and I am in close contact with subcontractors and contractors. I am in the background, continuously monitoring the service delivery. In the process, I need to look beyond each week and be able to adapt quickly. This makes my work very varied: every day is different.”

Why did you choose to work at Circet?

“In my previous job, I felt out of place, so I started looking for another job. I was looking for an organisation that would treat me like a person, not just a number. A friend of mine is a recruiter and was very positive about Circet. She advised me to send a spontaneous application. I did, and was quickly invited to an intake interview. During that meeting, it immediately felt like coming home.”

“I was looking for a company that would not treat me like a number. I knew it right from the first intake interview: this feels good.”

What do you like most about your job?

“At the beginning of the day I never know exactly what will come my way. That makes my job anything but your run-of-the-mill nine-to-five job.”

What are your biggest challenges?

“Communication with subcontractors is new to me. Of course, subcontractors represent their own interests. Let’s take the example of a financial transaction. I act on Circet’s behalf to do that, but subcontractors also want to get the most out of it. That’s the biggest challenge for me, but also a great learning curve at the same time.”

Which tip would you give a Circet newcomer?

“Ask lots of questions. Sure, it’s good to do your own research first, but don’t try to reinvent the wheel. You are surrounded by colleagues who are only too happy to help you and share their knowledge with you.”

Would you recommend Circet as an employer to friends or acquaintances?

“In fact, I already did! A good friend of mine has recently started working for Circet, on my recommendation. And quite coincidentally: he also works on the same project, and that is going very well!”
