When the French-language public broadcaster, RTBF, opened the doors of its new headquarters, Media Square, in June 2026, sustainability, innovation and a forward-looking approach were at the heart of the project. Behind the scenes, Circet, in close collaboration with Proximus and MWingz, ensured that employees, visitors and emergency services can rely on seamless mobile connectivity throughout the building.
A future-ready building requires state-of-the-art mobile connectivity
Buildings are becoming increasingly well insulated. Materials such as metal-based insulation create an energy-efficient environment, but they also have a downside: it becomes more difficult for mobile signals to get in and out.
This was also the case at Media Square, the new 38,000 m² RTBF building. To ensure a reliable mobile connection throughout the six above-ground floors and three underground car park levels, a specialised indoor network solution was required.
95 antennas and 7 kilometers cabling
Circet was responsible for installing a Distributed Antenna System (DAS), a network of antennas and cabling that distributes mobile signals throughout the building.
The system was connected to Proximus’s mobile network and is set up to accommodate connections from other operators in the future. This ensures that the infrastructure remains ready for further expansion.
In addition to mobile connectivity, attention was also paid to the ASTRID network, the communications network used by the emergency services. On the underground levels, the incoming ASTRID signal proved to be too insufficient. Thanks to the implemented solution, the emergency services now have the necessary coverage throughout the entire building.
A building without a standard floor plan
Although the installation itself was impressive, the project team felt that the biggest challenge already arose during the design phase.
"Media Square stands out for its complex architecture. With mezzanine levels, high-ceilinged spaces and vastly different floor layouts, no two floors are alike. As a result, a standard design simply wasn't an option." - Tom Schrey, Site Engineer.
Extensive measurements were therefore carried out in advance and a detailed coverage plan was drawn up. This enabled the antenna locations to be optimised so that a stable signal is available throughout the building.
Collaboration as the key to success
The project brought together several key partners, each contributing their expertise to the final solution. Proximus acted as the network partner, whilst specialist organisations such as MWingz were involved in the design and technical validation of the solution.
From the initial site survey in April 2024 to the completion of the works in May 2026, Circet worked on the project for almost two years. Site Engineer Tom Schrey oversaw the project and coordinated the works on site.
The close collaboration between all parties involved and RTBF made it possible to successfully complete the project just before Media Square was put into operation.

Een toekomstbestendige oplossing
With the completion of the indoor antenna network, RTBF now has a future-proof infrastructure that combines reliable mobile connectivity with the necessary coverage for emergency services.
For Circet, Media Square is a flagship reference project within the growing indoor connectivity market, where increasingly complex buildings require specialised solutions to deliver a seamless mobile experience.
